3 Tips for Staying Cool This Summer
Even though it may still be chilly now, everyone knows that summer is just around the corner. Sweltering temperatures and sweaty days are in our near future, and if you’re like most people, you’d like to beat the heat whenever possible.
Excessive heat isn’t just uncomfortable, but it can lead to dehydration, and even losing consciousness if you’re not careful. If you’re looking for ways to stay cool this summer, then here are some to add to your list.
Use Cooling Techniques
If you don’t have an air conditioner in your home, then you might want to consider getting one. Otherwise, there are other ways to stay cool— not just in your home, but also while outside. For instant relief, consider taking a shower. Cool water can cool your body instantly, and also get you clean in one go.
Otherwise, fans are a great way to circulate cool air throughout your house, especially if you place them strategically around windows. Instead of facing the fans inward, consider facing them outward. This will push the hot air out, and keep air circulating throughout your house.
Otherwise, a cool towel around your neck whether inside or outside of the house is known for significantly lowering your overall body temperature, and avoiding overheating.
Dress For The Heat
Chances are you probably don’t want to walk around completely nude. After all, besides not being legal, it can be a little… awkward. The next best thing is wearing as little as possible while still managing to wear some clothing. Think light cotton or linen. The lighter and more breathable the fabrics are, the cooler you’ll stay.
Avoid darker colors with thicker fabrics, as this can make you quite hot. The dark colors will soak up the sun’s heat, now the thick fabrics will cause you to sweat more. While you’re at it, add a wide-brimmed hat and some sunglasses and you’ll not only provide more shade, but you’ll also reduce your risk of a sunburn.
Block Out the Sun
While your first instinct may be to open the windows when it’s hot, this is actually the last thing you should do. It’s best to block out the sun and light if you hope to keep the temperature down in your house. Close your curtains and blinds during daylight hours, and when the temperature drops in the evening, feel free to open your windows and let the cool air in. However, don’t forget to close your blinds and curtains as soon as the sun rises the next day, or else your house is going to turn into an oven.
If you don’t have blackout curtains yet, you might seriously want to consider getting some, as they can be cheaper than an air conditioner, yet be extremely effective for lowering the temperature in your house.
